Hello, and welcome to the Crowley Lake fishing report. ?? ??This week has been a great time to be a still water fly fisher as the size and quality of fish that I have seen brought to the net this week are second to none. ??The midge hatch is abundant, the perch fry are being chased my their arch nemesis, the big bad brown and the rainbows are nice and healthy for this time of the year and are averaging a swell 2-4 lbs. ??If you have not gotten your Crowley fix out of the way I would suggest you get your tail up here and experience one of the best trophy trout waters in California.

Just as a reminder we have the annual Double Haul in the Fall float tube tournament coming up here in the middle of September and this is going to be another fine time to be on the water so mark those dates off in your calendar and get signed up.

Now for all fly fishers out there here is the scoop. ??The midge emergence this week has been great but a little slow starting in the mornings as the temperatures have cooled down significantly over the past week. ??This has not dampened the bite what so ever this just means that you can sleep in an extra hour before heading on down to the lake. ??Whoo-Hoo! ??A little extra coffee in the morning never hurt anyone. ?? The areas that I would concentrate on this week would be Green Banks in 8-13 feet, McGee Bay in 7-14 feet, Crooked Creek in 8-14 feet, and Six Bays in 8-16 feet. ??The flies that I would suggest for the still water nymphing setup would be Stevie's Wonders in #16-18 black/red, gray/black, and olive/silver. ??I would also suggest Sierra Drifter's Chironimid's in #16-18 copper tiger's, krystal zebra's, light gillies, and the punk perch in size #12-16. ??For those of you pulling streamers out there I would suggest an intermediate sink line for the river channels and weed lines and I would have a Type 3 or 4 Full Sinking Line when you are trolling the deeper water. The flies that I would suggest for this week would be the Loeberg, Punk Perch, Krystal Leech's, Cone Head Krystal Bugger's in Black, Brown, and Olive and Olive and Black Matuka's in sizes 10-14. ??3X to your point fly and hold on.
