Hello and welcome to the weekly Crowley Lake fishing report! This week has been a great week to be on the water with lots of sunshine and calm winds this in turn has produced some epic days on the water. The annual perch fry migration is in full swing and some of the larger models are moving in to our shallow bays to forage on this abundant food source. Also, this coming week we are hosting our annual Stillwater Classic on August 11, 2007 and my question to you is who will be crowned lord of the fly? Will it be you? For all you fly anglers out there here is the scoop. The fishing this week has been nothing short of epic as this is the beginning of trophy trout season which means less pressure on the lake which in turn produces a much greater catch rate for the experienced Crowley Lake fisherman. The annual perch fry migration is taking off and our two, three, and four year olds have been cruising the weed lines and slashing on this fine specimen and have been growing very fast over the past few weeks as they have been gorging themselves on perch fry. This is one of the best times of the year to be on the water and this is when some of our largest fish are landed every season. Especially our large brown trout as well as some of our finest specimens of cutthroat. The areas that I would concentrate on this week would be McGee Bay in 8-14 feet, Green Banks in 8-16 feet, Little Hilton in 8-14 feet, and Crooked Creek in 8-15 feet. The flies that I would suggest this week would be Sierra Drifter's #16-18 copper tiger's, light gillies, copper emergers, black tiger's, and punk perch pattern's in light and dark olive. Also, I would suggest Stevie's Wonder's in #16 black/red, gray/black, olive/silver, and black/silver have been the go to pattern's for the mid-day emergence. Also, for those of you stripping out there I would have two different types of sinking lines right now. A Type 2 sinking tip and also a type 5 or 6 full sinking line. I would use the type 2 in close to the weed lines in McGee and also the Upper Owens River Channel and the full sinking line to work some of the deeper drop off's and river channel's along the Green Banks/Six Bays area. The flies that I would suggest for stripping would be punk perch pattern's, loeberg's, hornberg's, krystal bugger's, and hale bopp leaches in olive, brown, black, and cinnamon have been the go to colors. Size 12-16. 3X to your point fly or you will get broken off! Also, we have plenty of rental boats available this week so make your reservation today.
