wind and cooler weather will change the pattern later in the week. crowds have been light as the upper Owens has all the anglers. The action moves from Trico Mayflies Spinners, the female Trico duns in the mornings along with the Caddis and a few PMDs. In the afternoons Caddis and Trico males at Dark. Look for the Baetis to make a beeter showing in the mid-morning. Overall the fishing on the creek is a little tougher due to the thick weeds, and the flows are lower due to the lack of snow pack or rain. Short drag free drifts and light tippet will be in order to hook the phd trout. I would use 6x/7x tippet as the water is clear and the fish have been seeing flies from March 1 (as CADFG changed the regulations allowing winter fishing). Plenty of habitat for the young trout with lots of vegetation to hide under. Fish will be holding in the open pockets and lanes when out feeding. I witnessed Rainbows digging redds on the upper part of Hot Creek this week. The Hot Creek strain spawn this time of year.

Nymphing Patterns: Surface emergers, scuds, Caddis emerger patterns. San Juan Worms Master nymphs. Small PT, Mercer Beadhead micro Stone.

Dry Fly Patterns: Bwo's,Cdc caddis, Schrodder's Parachute Caddis,Para bwos, Hot creek Caddis, Trico spinners in sizes 18-22s, PMD 14-16s
