WEATHER
The weather has been the best of the year. It seems like July with the daytime temps in the 70's and the nights dropping into the mid 40's. It has been spectacular. The skies have been clear blue with gentle breezes in the afternoons. We have had very few mosquitoes yet, but most people are using plenty of sunscreen.
SOUTH LAKE
The lake is low, as it is projected to be all summer, but is now ice free. The fishing has been phenomenal with Nightcrawlers bringing in the bulk of the fish and Lemon Twist Powerbait in a close second. The fish are surprisingly fat and full of color. Anglers are having pretty good luck now with red-gold Thomas Buoyants and some action with gold Kastmasters. There are boats on the lake for rent now and anyone getting a boat and heading for the Rockslide area are catching lots of nice trout.
BISHOP CREEK
The creek has been spectacular. With low water flows all of your favorite "secret" holes are open and full of fish. Pautzke's Green Label eggs have been great with Worms doing very well. Panther Martin lures have been flying off the shelf with anglers reporting very good success in the holes and small eddys. The trees are starting to push green buds all over so the summer color is beginning to take shape. It is a nice time of the year.
NORTH LAKE AND INTAKE II
The road to North Lake is open now and the fishing has been super. Good action with olive Wooly Buggers used as a fly and bobber and a gentle return. Lemon Twist Powerbait doing very well as well as Nightcrawlers.
Intake 2 was the hottest spot. Everyone I spoke with reported great success with Powerbait or inflated Nightcrawlers. Good results with the olive Wooly. Several great Alpers Trophies came out with beautiful color and bright pink meat.
Lake Sabrina is totally ice-free now and the boats, caf??, and store are in full operation. The fishing reports have been spectacular with Nightcrawlers and Powerbait. We weighed in several nice Alpers this week and I am told there was a BIG stocking of large fish.
BIG FISH
Jason Fix of Bishop caught the biggest with a 9 lb. 9 oz. Alpers Trophy Trout coming out of Intake 2 using a Rapala lure. His picture is on the website of this spectacular fish.

Cold, cold but good fishing
Bishop CreekWEATHER Boy what a difference a week makes. It has turned really cold this weekend. Daytime temps in the 50's with nights to 21. Wind picked up a lot and with the temps it was tough to be outside for long. Sunday is beautiful and the weatherman says it will be warming up for the next several days. SOUTH LAKE With the cold weather the lake is still ice covered but there is a lot of water showing up around the shoreline. The...... Read More
Bishop Creek see best best weather in 20 years!
Bishop CreekWEATHER The weather was the best in 20 years for an opening weekend. The daytime temps were in the 70's with clear skies and gentle breezes. Nights got down to the high 40's and were spectacular. There was almost no snow and only in the higher elevations. SOUTH LAKE South Lake was tough this opener because the ice was just at the wrong stage. There was barely any open water by the shore yet the ice was too rotten to walk on. Some...... Read More
