WEATHER
The weather was the best in 20 years for an opening weekend. The daytime temps were in the 70's with clear skies and gentle breezes. Nights got down to the high 40's and were spectacular. There was almost no snow and only in the higher elevations.

SOUTH LAKE
South Lake was tough this opener because the ice was just at the wrong stage. There was barely any open water by the shore yet the ice was too rotten to walk on. Some anglers walked back to the inlet for some open water and caught tons of fish but none of any size. In another week the ice should be clearing off and allowing for some good fishing.

BISHOP CREEK
The creek was great with a nice low water level and great access. Most of the big fish caught were on the creek. Both the North and South forks were productive. Natural baits seemed to work best with Nightcrawlers bringing in the most fish. Most anglers were ecstatic about the fishing with lots of limits going home. I heard more talk about how great the fish fought this year than in years past. I guess the nice weather makes the fish feistier too. Some action with small spinners or Powerworms, but worms took the cake.

NORTH LAKE AND INTAKE II
The road to North Lake was clear and easy to walk but, of course, the Forest Service could not open the gate to make access easy. Lots of anglers walked up and reported great success. Again, worms seemed to be the best. I heard of some results with Kastmasters. Mostly half pounders but lots of fish.

Intake 2 was the hot spot. On opening day at sunrise the bite was all out. Every cast was a hit and you could throw just about anything. It soon died out to a normal day but everyone there were talking about the incredible bite at dawn. Quite a few large fish came out and Powerbait seemed to be the best. The lake was pretty crowded by our terms and the float tubers were like Cheerios in a bowl, but everyone had a great time.

BIG FISH
Ryan Pasco of Anaheim was the first to come in and the biggest of the weekend with a nice 5lb. 8oz. Rainbow from Bishop Creek just below Sabrina using Nightcrawlers.
Larry Pasco, his dad, also nailed a nice 4lb. 6oz. Alpers in the North Fork of Bishop Creek with Nightcrawlers.
Bruce Chaplin of San Diego came in with a beautiful colored 3lb. 14oz. Rainbow from Bishop Creek by Willow Camp using an orange Trout Teaser.
