Fishing, the Weather & Berry Pies are all GREAT at Lake Sabrina

Lake Sabrina - Bishop, CA (Inyo County)

by Rick, Patti, Juanita and Jerrod

The Lake is plum full! Yup, we're spilling - Thanks, SCE! It's a beautiful thing to see ~ the water going over the spillway and the Lake filled to the gills. There are some Willows across from the dam that are starting to lighten up, but that's it so far.

Lots of limits still coming out of the Lake - thanks to the stockings of the Department of Fish and Game - another load came in Friday - thanks again, DFG. Quite a number of limits from the Inlet using Salmon Eggs on a slow retrieve ~ NightCrawlers or PowerBait are working, too. Trolling flashers and a NightCrawler or just a NightCrawler or trolling a WoolyBugger close to shore. Drifting using the same as you have been ~ NightCrawlers or PowerBaits.

Izzy Coutin of Upland made a new friend at the Lake who became his fishing mentor - Dick Riggs of Van Nuys (a long-time Lake Sabrina fisherman). Dick took Izzy out trolling (a first for Izzy) and he immediately caught a fish, then another - he ended up with 2 limits in 2 days. The first two limits Izzy has every caught - dinner for two nights (see Photo). Good catching, Izzy!

Got the berry from Wye Road Feed in Bishop and, boy, are they wonderful ~ made four berry pies ~ GONE! I'll be making lots more for Labor Day Weekend, so come on up and enjoy homemade pie and homemade ice cream on the deck. Thanks, Marcie for all your hard work in bringing the berries our way!

All the campgrounds in the Bishop Creek Canyon are still open. The only campground to take reservations is Four Jeffery ( and enter Four Jeffrey) all others are first come first serve. There is a full hook-up campground also on the South Lake road, Creekside RV Park. Remember to take it easy on all the mountain roads, the deer are out in the mornings and evenings and there's lots of hikers out there - can't stress this enough!

We had some LOUD thunderbooms and a few sprinkles over the weekend, but temps are excepted to be for highs in the mid-70's with lows in the high-50's - doesn't get better than that! You can check and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at
