Wow! Just another fine week of fishing in the high country. The ?Įweather has been very unsettled this week and reminds us that spring time ?Įcan be a very finicky time to fish if you do not come prepared for the ?Įadverse conditions. Though we have had unsettled weather the fishing has ?Įstill been very productive on the days where our temperatures can soar ?Įabove the 60 degree mark. This pattern can produce some very epic days ?Įof fishing here on Crowley Lake so check out the weather channel for ?Įupdates. Now just to touch base on the Sacramento Perch. The Sacramento ?Įperch are just about to start getting going here at the lake. The perch ?Įfishing really starts to heat up here in the next 2-3 weeks for the fact ?Įthat the perch come in from the deeper water to spawn on all of the shallow ?Įbays and flats of Crowley Lake. These fish like to concentrate in the areas ?Įof 4-10 feet of water and the fishing can become non stop for these little ?Įrascals. I can't wait! Perch tacos for all! So look for this bite to be ?Įcoming on very soon! Now for all of you conventional tackle fisherman out ?Įthere here is the scoop on whats hot for still fishing.I would suggest ?Įfishing the areas of Mcgee Bay in 14-20 feet of water, Alligator Point, ?ĮSandy Point, and Green Banks. These areas have been producing some very ?Įnice fish with every one catching their limits. The hot baits that I would ?Įsuggest would be Berkley Power Eggs in chartreuse and Fluorescent Red, ?ĮBerkley Gulp Power Bait in the flavors of American Pie, Marshmallow ?ĮClusters, and Rainbow Candy dipped in Berkley Garlic dip has been very ?Įproductive for still fisherman. Also the dreaded threaded night crawler ?Įinflated has also been producing some nice catches. Now for all of you ?Įtrolling boys out there here is the scoop. The trolling has still been ?Įvery productive here at Crowley this week despite the adverse conditions ?Įwe had to contend with. I would suggest trolling from the outhouse in ?ĮMcgee to Sandy Point. Also I would suggest Green Banks to Six Bays, ?Įand also along the Chalk Cliffs in the old Upper Owens River Channel. ?ĮThese areas are always very consistent and we have seen some very nice ?Įfish taken from these areas in the past couple of weeks. The lures that ?ĮI would suggest this week are going to be Rapala cd-3's in the colors ?Įof brown trout, rainbow trout, red/fluorescent orange, and also ?Įsilver/black. As far as needlefish are concerned I would suggest ?Įusing either size#2 or #3 needlefish in the colors of brass bikini, ?Įmetallic perch, yellow/watermelon, and red magic/fish scale. Also, ?Įanother hot lure here on the lake is the Owner Mira Shad. The colors ?Įthat I would suggest would be flame, pink passion, black pearl, and ?Įgold shad in order to get into some of the larger fish in the lake. ?ĮNow for all of you fly fisherman out there. This has been another ?Įexciting week to be a fly angler on the infamous Crowley Lake. The ?Įfishing has been good-excellent despite the cold front we had blow ?Įthrough the high country last week. The midge hatch was only ?Įaffected slightly by the cold temps. We have seen a very strong ?Įemergence from about 10:30 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m. in the ?Įafternoon. This has been the most consistent time to be fishing ?Įon the lake in order to catch the midge emergence. In the mornings ?Įthe fish are staying close to the bottom of the lake and are picking ?Įup larva off the bottom as well as leach patterns as their breakfast ?Įdu jour. In the afternoons the fish are moving up in the water column?Įin order to feed on the emerging midge pupa which is the most ?Įvulnerable state of the midge emergence. The fish can key in on ?Įthis for hours at a time so if you are not getting bit you should ?Įtry moving your indicator up at least 2 feet in order to receive a ?Įfew more grabs. The flies that I would suggest using this week are ?ĮSierra Drifter's size 16-18 Zebra Midges, size 16-18 Copper and Black ?ĮTigers, size 16-18 gillies, size 16-18 copper and black crystal emergers. ?ĮAlso, some other great fly patterns that work very well here at Crowley ?Įare the Stevie's Wonder series of flies that we have exclusively here at ?Įthe shop. The Stevie's Wonder flies that I would suggest using are size ?Į16-18 gray/black, size 16-18 Stevies Z, size 16-18 black/silver, and also ?Įsize 16-18 tan Stevie's Wonder. Come on in to the shop and we will get you ?Įdialed in on the flies that are working for the week and also give you some ?Įsuggestions on some of the hot spots on the lake. Also, we have plenty of ?Įflat bottom boats for rent for all of you fly guys out there. These boats ?Įwill fish 3 anglers all day in comfort.
