The bite at South Lake was excellent for the majority of the anglers that fished the lake this last week. Mild crowds meant that there was plenty of shoreline to fish, a treat for many who visit the canyon during the shoulder season. The fish are hanging shallow right now so anglers trolling on top with Olive Wooly Buggers, CD 7 Rapalas and Yozuri Baits are having a lot of luck. Lure tossers are doing best with Silver Kastmasters. One of the hottest baits right now is a nightcrawler fished about 6ft under a bobber from shore or from a boat at the Rock Slide. Although several trophies were sighted during the week, they seemed to have lock jaw this week, perhaps due to the weather fluctuations we've seen over the past two weeks. One of the best catches of the week was the trio of Meelad Jamshasb, Ashkan Jamshasb and Branden Kim who nailed beautiful limits of trout trolling Yo-Zuri baits.

A load of Alpers trophy rainbows including several tagged fish were planted Sunday June 1st to kick off the Bishop Creek Canyon Summer Classic tagged trout derby. There is a one-time entry fee of $5 to participate, kids 12 and under are free. Everyone who enters is eligible to win some of the over $5,000 in cash and prizes.
