The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) has announced it will be checking anglers at a checkpoint at Lake Davis sometime during the week of May 15. The checkpoint will be conducted between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

DFG often uses checkpoints to help educate the public about laws, regulations, and resource conditions. Checkpoints can also prevent, discourage, and allow for the detection of violations, and apprehend violators of fish and game laws. Additionally, checkpoints can serve to facilitate the gathering of biological and statistical data related to fish abundance, health and range, and user group demographics. Information on the biological risks of pike escaping or being moved from Lake Davis and the DFG's current efforts to plan a proposed pike eradication project will be provided to those contacted at the checkpoint.

Lake Davis was chemically treated for the non-native, predatory northern pike in 1997. The pike were rediscovered in 1999, and Lake Davis is currently the only body of water in California in which this invasive species is known to exist.
