Fishing at Silver Lake slowed because of high temperatures

Fishing at Silver Lake in the June Lake Loop has slowed some this week due to some incredibly high temperatures for this time of year in the Eastern Sierra. DFG has continued to stock every week; usually on Mondays, with about 800 pounds of catchable rainbows. Most anglers reported some steady catching of these smaller trout, while some had better luck and caught some nice big rainbows. "Squeaky Samantha" of the Trout Law Gang was caught this week, weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds 8 ounces. With "Squeaky Samantha" hauled in the Trout Law gang at Silver Lake is down to two outlaws in our lake with tags. "Toothless Tyler" and "Possum Carl" are still on the loose with great prizes to be had if captured thanks to The Eastern Sierra Fishing Coalition and there Trout Law Round Up Fishing Derby. Fishing early in the morning and later in the afternoon is the best times as the mid-day sun is pushing the fish deeper down in the lake.

We have seen a variety of different types of baits, lures and flies show some good results this past week from Berkley's new Gulp Pinch worm with Garlic, Rainbow Glitter Garlic, Night Crawlers, and Salmon Egg Red Power Baits all showing good results from both the shore and from boats. Olive or Green Wooly Buggers, Olive Matukas and Black Bead Head Buggers have seen some good results from trollers along the road side of the lake, while the ever consistent Thomas Buoyant Gold/Red and Berkley Mice Tails have been great from a boat at the far South end of the lake where Rush Creek dumps into Silver Lake. If you are a fly fisher, the mosquitos are out this week, so look at using a #16 Yellow Humpy, Mosquito or Black Gnat both on the lake and in Rush Creek.

Bob Cassietto of Canyon Country captured "Squeaky Sam" of the Trout Law Gang trolling with a Green Wooly Bugger in his Kayak. "Squeaky Sam" gave him a good run for his money in the kayak but Bob was able to reel in the big lunker.
Photo #1: Tyler Nelson of Simi Valley caught a 5 pound 14 ounce Rainbow from a boat using Gulp Alive Garlic Pinch Worms.
Photo #2: Jim Latik hauled in a 3 pound 12 ounce Rainbow on his 90th Birthday from the shore of Silver using Salmon Egg Red Power Bait.
Photo #3: Alex Reyes of Orange brought in two nice Rainbows from the shore of Silver Lake one weighing 3 pound 9 ounces and the other weighing 4 pounds using Power Baits.
Photo #4: Roger Rendall of Santa Clarita caught a 5 pound 5 ounce Rainbow trolling on Silver using a Tasmanian Devil.

Hopefully the weather starts to cool of a little in the next week as we look for more good fishing on Silver Lake and Rush Creek.

Don't forget that Silver Lake will have its annual Rush Creek Cleanup coming up on June 22nd and the First Annual Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy for youth ages 10 - 15 on June 23rd and 24th. The youth Fly Fishing Academy is "FREE" with all gear and guides provided. Only three spots remain so don't delay. Give us a call at Silver lake Resort and get your kids signed up.

Happy Fishing!!!
