Hello Convict Lake fishing report followers!
We've had a great start to the 2012 fishing season here at Convict Lake. The average size fish being caught is between 1.5-2lbs. One of the best areas right now for catching these fish is at the handicap pier!
Catch of the Week: There are many large fish ready to be caught out there! One of the largest fish caught so far this season was on opening weekend. This was a 3 lb. rainbow trout brought in by Bob Callahan from Temecula, CA on night crawlers along the North Shore. Above please find a group that visit Convict Lake often...the Phantoms Fisherman with impressive stringers from Los Angeles, CA. They had success with night crawlers and power bait along the South Shore.
Derby News: Round-up at the Lake Fishing Derby started Sunday, April 30th for a chance to win $6,000 in Resort Prizes!
Weather: The weather has been sunny and warm with the high in the upper 60's to low 70's, with lows in the 30's. Here is a local site that is usually quite accurate www.mammothweather.com.
Tactics/Bait: This past week Anglers have had most success with night crawlers, chunky cheese gulp, and garlic or salmon peach Powerbait. Locations to try are the Inlet, Outlet, North Shore, South Shore, Creek, Jetty, Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: PowerBait, Trout Teasers, Midges, Panther Martin, NeedleFish, Thomas Bouyants, Green Wooly Booger and White Mini Jig.
