Here we go again - the Lake is as low as it can go. Yup, empty again! The two natural lakes are still frozen over, not to sure about the thickness of the ice . . . Need to watch where you walk as there are lots of ice shelves on rocks that can collapse. There is some open water between the two lakes and in front of the dam.

The reason for the draining of the lake is to replace the grates on the outflow structure at the bottom of the dam. Have no fear - there's lots of snow this year. With the draining of the lake, the ice is broken up, so when the run-off starts, the ice will melt faster - so actually Edison is giving us a headstart on the thaw.

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing will open on Saturday, April 24th, at 7:00am and will serve Breakfast until 11:00am and Lunch until 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Cafe will close during the week and re-open on Friday at 8:00am. The store hours are as follows:
Sunday 7:00 to 6:00pm
Monday 8:00 to 6:00pm
Tuesday 8:00 to 6:00pm
Wednesday CLOSED
Thursday 8:00 to 6:00pm
Friday 8:00 to 6:00pm
Saturday 7:00 to 6:00pm

And, of course, we'll have HOMEMADE pie, sodas, beer, wine, coffee, tea and hot cocoa!
Looks like the only Forestry campground open in Bishop Creek Canyon is BitterBrush - they're trying to get water on prior to the Opener, but with another storm due in Tuesday with 1/2 foot of snow predicted at the 7,000 ft level not sure what might happen. If there is NO water at BitterBrush it's free to camp, once the water is on, there is a $21.00 fee per night. Haven't heard the weather for the Opener, but you can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com.

A bit of sad news, Hi didn't make it thru the winter - but we have a new little terror - MAX - a black and white Border Collie - he's giving Lo a run for his money. And, Nimrod has become a very good Nimrod, leaving Rick and I numerous gifts during the winter months - gophers, birds, mice, and a little cottontail bunny - the joys of being a cat owner.

Bryan will be back this season. Also, joining us this year is Len and Jenny - give them a warm welcome - coz we're sure happy to have them.
