It's Official! The 26th annual "How Big Is Big?" derby is in the books! What an tough but amazing year! We saw so many friends and made so many new friends. And the kids ...they make all of our hearts sing as they ARE our future fisherman and perpetuators of the sport! As most of you know, it takes about a week for all the data entry (name, address, weight, length and date caught). Then we sort it all and produce the actual winners listing. Postcards and prize mailing follows. HUGE thanks to the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce for the additional stocking, which is funded by donations and merchandise sales, etc. We thank all our prize donors, Scott for the stocking coordination, Walker Burger for the kiddos ice cream cones, Desert Creek Hatchery in Oregon, and I know I will leave someone else out so forgive me! Most importantly, I want to thank THE STAFF AT WALKER GENERAL STORE! We all work so hard for a month weighing fish, clipping tails, entering your fish, taking pictures....but we wouldn't trade it for the world! It is hard to believe we celebrated our 26TH year of the derby. Where has the time gone?
We can announce Jake Escalante won the adult derby with a 5# 5-ounce 23 3/4" beauty caught on 7-13 (no bad luck there!) and Karson Greene an amazing 11-year-old from Boulder Creek won the Junior Derby with a 4# 9-ounce great fish!
THANK YOU ALL for your participation, the smiles and laughs, hugs and excitement, and enjoying this beautiful place we call home with us! I will post the results as soon as they are done!
