Convict Lake Resort Announces
Ambush at the Lake - Fall Tagged Fishing Derby Series

Mammoth Lakes, CA - October 15, 2009

The Eastern Sierra just received an early fall storm in the high country making for a dramatic contrast between winter whites on the peaks and brilliant fall colors. The fishing has been great and our annual fall fishing derby is in full swing. The lake has been producing large catches and full stringers.

Convict Lake adds some historic flair and a new format to their annual fall fishing derby held October 1-November 15, 2009 - $25,000 IN PRIZES & THREE WAYS TO WIN

The competition format will include a series of three tagged fish derbies capturing local lore from Convict Lakes past cast of characters part of the infamous Jones Gang and lawmen out to get them. This historic event ended with gun play at the lake and prompted the renaming of two peaks and the lake itself.

The series includes Hangman's Stringer held October 1-22, Sheriff Morrison's Bounty held October 24-25 and Benton Posse's Round Up held October 26-November 15.

All entries include a t-shirt, cap and commemorative pin and chances to win big prizes. $60 to enter all three derbies.

Hangman's Stringer is a warm up to the main event where 44 tagged fish will be stocked throughout the competition dates. Entry is $40 and anglers catching a tagged fish will check-in at the store and receive an envelope corresponding to the tag number. The prize inside will be a surprise including: getaway packages, resort gift certificates, marina rentals and free entries to the spring derby series.

So far we have 13 lucky winners for Hangman's Stringer with $1000 value of prizes being pulled from the lake so far! There are still 31 more tagged fish swimming around waiting to be caught.

$$CHE-CHING - Sheriff Morrison's Bounty is the main event where 20 tagged fish will be stocked and each angler catching a tagged fish will open the corresponding envelope winning the prize inside from the following selection - Cash Prizes: $10,000, $5,000 and $1,000 (cash prizes awarded only if corresponding tagged fish is caught) Non Cash Prizes: (two) $100, (five) $50 and (ten) $25 (resort gift certificates). Entry is $60 and includes a gourmet BBQ provided by The Restaurant at Convict Lake and music on Sunday, October 25th. Award ceremony will take place at 3:00pm on Sunday....all unclaimed non-cash prizes will be given away after the unveiling of envelopes.

Wind down your fall with a relaxing getaway to Convict Lake Resort and compete in Benton Posse's Round up. Entry is $30 coupled with the deepest lodging discounts. 22 tagged fish will be stocked throughout the competition dates and the prizes will be given out in the same style and of the same type as Hangman's Stringer.

All unclaimed prizes will be awarded at the end of the derby series through a drawing including all anglers entered into the any of the three competitions that did not receive a prize.

Fall Lodging packages begin at $299 for a two night stay including a $100 restaurant credit and 1 day boat rental. Specials are available Sunday - Thursdays.
