Trolling at 25 to 35ft with a flasher/crawler combo continues to be the best way to catch a limit at South Lake however most folks are opting for traditional bait fishing with mixed results. The folks that are trolling are really knocking 'em dead mid lake, in boiler cover, or by the rock slide area. Gold or Silver, Seps or Dave Davis, it didn't really matter so long as it was really flashy. The flasher/powerworm combo has also been very productive with florescent orange worms producing best.

Thankfully, a massive dose of Alpers on Friday improved the bite at the inlets near the back of the lake. This was the largest plant of Alpers stocked in one shot since the Smith's purchased the lake concession three years ago. For one happy couple on Saturday, Salmon/Peach Powerbait fooled approximately 20 fish averaging 2lbs each, most of which were released. The bait bite was not as fruitful for everyone but some folks got very lucky. Most of the Alpers taken this week were taken on Lip Ripperz, Jigs and Berkley Powerworms, orange being the best all around color. Silver/Blue Thomas Bouyants were also hot over the weekend.

The lake level has backed off a few inches over the past week and we're expecting a drop of about 3ft over the month of August. Even with the drop, we're expecting the launch ramp to remain open throughout the month and hopefully well into September.

Also of note, the Bishop Creek Canyon Fall Classic is coming up in September. Throughout the month of September Inyo County & the Bishop Chamber of Commerce will be planting a big load of Alpers trout including several tagged trout worth up to $500. For the fall derby, all canyon waters including Bishop Creek will be planted with tagged fish!!!!
