After a week off, I'm back with the weekly report. I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th. Its beautiful right now in the high country. The weather is ideal. Fishing seemed to hold steady while I was gone. Nothing monstrous, but a lot of quality fish caught on a variety of baits and lures.

Catch of the Week: This week we had a tie for the "Catch of the Week" with two anglers landing a 3 pound 12 ounce Rainbow. Frank Grisby from Upland, CA caught his with Green Powerbait from an unknown location of the lake.

Catch of the Week: Joe Chico of San Dimas, CA with a beauty from the Inlet. It also was a 3 pound 12 ounce Rainbow caught with Rainbow Powerbait.

Other notable catches this week:

Lauren Battin from Westlake Village, CA with a 2 pound 15 ounce Rainbow. She was trolling a Needlefish when she hooked into this Rainbow.

Ryan Oh of Alta Loma, CA hooked into a 2 pound 13 ounce Rainbow using Orange Gulp Worms. He was posted up along the South Shore.

Kennedy Marcus of San Diego, CA caught this 2 pound 11 ounce Rainbow while fishing the Inlet. He was using Yellow Garlic Powerbait.

Daniel Caudle from La Verne, CA landed this 2 pound 11 ounce Rainbow with a Nightcrawler. Daniel caught it from a boat out in the middle of the lake.

Jenna Russell of Crowley Lake, CA with a 2 pound 8 ounce Rainbow caught using Powerbait. She was fishing at the Inlet.

The Yniguez and Silva Families from the San Fernando Valley, CA had a few full stringers. They were fishing the South Shore using Powerbait and different lures.

Tactics/Bait: A variety of different baits and lures were hooking fish all week. Some of the nicer fish and full stringers were caught with Mice Tails (Pink or Red are always successful colors), Powerbait, Nightcrawlers, Gulp Worms and trolling Needlefish. In the creek, use salmon eggs and small spinners. The most successful Powerbait colors were Yellow, Rainbow and Green. Any color with garlic worked well. I would suggest using some type of added attractant. Pro-Cure, Bait-On, Lip Ripperz and Berkley all make excellent attractants, which are sold at the general store. The South Shore and the Inlet were the hottest spots this week. Other locations fishing well were the North Shore, the Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.

Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Panther Martins, Tasmanian Devils, green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Kastmasters, NeedleFish, Roostertails, and garlic scent on Powerbait.

Here is a list of recommended flies:

Dry Flies: Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.

Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.

Wet Flies(Nymphs): Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).

Other Resources: View our Convict Lake Fishing Map and Fishing Rig Suggestion brochures. Both brochures are available in the General Store.

Weather: The forecast for next week is calling for some beautiful weather with clear and sunny skies. The high temps starting Monday will be in the mid-70s and the lows will be in the mid-40s. Here is the National Weather Service link that is usually quite accurate: 7-Day Forecast Convict Lake.

Sunrise - Sunset: Sunrise this week 5:43am - 5:47am and Sunset 8:17pm - 8:13pm.

Stocking: Mono County is scheduled to stock trophy trout on July 19th. The DFW is scheduled to plant both the lake and creek the week of July 10th.
