The Eastern Sierra Second Summer Trout derby has started this week at Silver Lake, so get ready for some great Fall fishing with some great Prizes to be won thanks to The Eastern Sierra Fishing Coalition and Western Outdoor News. Twenty Alpers trout have been put into Silver Lake with Yellow numbered tags that when caught will get you some amazing prizes and a chance to win a Fully rigged Gregor Boat with a 15 HP Mercury Motor.

No entry necessary, just catch a tagged trout bring it into Silver Lake Resort store and you are a winner. You can also purchase raffle tickets to win the boat but catching a tagged trout gets you in. Stop by the store to get more details and ask about the Derby and get a free Lure (while supplies last). The Eastern Sierra Second Summer Trout Derby is sure to be a huge success.

The past two weeks have been producing some nice size trout and the cooler temperatures and some rain that is rolling through this week have helped to cool the water temperatures and made for some great fishing. Power baits and worms have been the most consistent baits the past two weeks (sorry I missed last weeks report) and Thomas Buoyant and Needle Fish have done well on the lure side. Some fishermen are still having some luck using some flies, try a Green or Brown Wooly Bugger or some Mosquitoes before we start to get some colder temperatures. Fishing from the Point across from the store or out in a boat at the far end of the lake where Rush Creek dumps into Silver lake have been some great spots. Also, Rush Creek has pumped out some great quality fish this week and some great size trout.

This weeks Fish of the week go to Bob Rucker of Pinon Hills caught a great looking 3 pound 6 ounce Rainbow on a boat in Silver Lake using Yellow Power Bait. Young Tyler MacDonald (age 4) of Lake Elsinore caught a huge 2 pound 5 ounce Rainbow from the shore of Silver Lake using Power Bait. Griffin LaFlamme of Santa Rosa also caught a nice 2 pound 8 ounce Rainbow from the shore of Silver Lake using Power Bait. Robert Dykmans of San Diego landed a 2 pound 12 ounce Rainbow from the shore of Silver Lake using an Orange Berkley Power Worm. Vince Ceppaglia of vancouver Washington landed a great 2 pound 8 ounce Rainbow on Rush Creek using Garlic Power Bait and Rick Gardner of Upland caught a 3 pound 8 ounce rainbow on Rush Creek using a good old fashioned worm.
