Mammoth Lakes Basin Fish Report- Update by Jon Carlton 5-28-09

Water Conditions:

The Lakes Basin is open and all lakes are ice free. Water temps are in the mid to high 40's, Lake George being the coldest at around 44-45 degrees, with snow still lingering around the south and west shore. Twin Lakes is the warmest , the lower lake at around 49 degrees.

Fishing conditions and Hatches:

Fishing is starting to pick up as water temps warm. Look for fish around inlets and outlets. Spring spawners are on the cruise.
Midges are still the predominant hatches, until water temps come up, but leech patterns stripped slowly are taking fish as well.

Recommended Flies:

#18-22 Zebra midge, #18-22 Black Beauty, #16-18 Pheasant tail, #18-22 WD-40 black, #12-14 Mini leech, olive, #12 Doc's Twin Lake Special, #10-12 Wolly buggers, olive and black, #10-12 Olive Matuka
