Rush Creek Fish Report- Update by Mark Spieler 5-19-09

Report Date:

Water Conditions: Okay

134 cfs above Grant as of 5/19. Periods of warm weather may induce spring runoff here, so expect a little higher/dirtier water for a spell. Below Grant flows have not gone up too high, currently @ 50 cfs.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches:

Rush between the lakes is open to any method of fishing. Expect to hunt out the stockers, most of the time. Below Grant, I have heard some good reports for smaller browns on dries and streamers. This area is under special regulations! Please follow the current DFG laws and we would hope people would return all wild fish.

Recommended Flies:

Dries:
General attractor dries work great: #14 yellow Humpy's, #16 Adams, and #10-14 yellow, orange and tan Stimulators. Nymphs: #18-22 Zebra Midges, #14-18 PT's and Hares Ears, #14 Zug Bugs and Prince Nymphs too. #12 Stoneflies

Guides Hint: Runoff means cold fast (snowmelt) water during periods of warm weather. This can not only slow the bite down, but make it harder to get flies effectively too the fish. If it's running high, then search out flatter terrain and slower water.
