Lake Oroville coho salmon eggs hatching at FRH

Some good news and some bad news regarding Lake Oroville-related fisheries was released this week by Department of Water Resources biologist Eric See. "We successfully received our coho salmon eggs from Washington State. They are hatching at the Feather River Hatchery, so we are good to go with the Lake Oroville coldwater fish stocking program. Approximately 200,000 coho will be stocked in Lake Oroville during the fall of 2009."

See continued, "Things are not looking good for stocking steelhead in the Thermalito Afterbay during 2009. The fish supply for this program is dependent upon steelhead eggs collected at the FRH that are ???surplus' to the anadramous program. Due to the low returns of adult steelhead at the hatchery this year, there won't be any surplus of 2009. We will try again next year."

We really stocked a lot of big trout last week, and most of them are still in the lake." Anglers fishing bait have caught...... Read More
