Less than a week till Fishmas Opener – those 80° temps came and went. Today’s temp at the Lake is at 12° with that darn wind chill – a bit more snow at the Lake over the last couple of days and a bit more predicted thru the week. Best be packing your woolies and rain gear – just in case! Mom Nature is in her wishy-washy stage called Spring! Snow one day – BlueBird weather the next!

Our resident Bald Eagle paid us a visit on moving day and we’ve seen him almost every day since. The Bears are awake, so be practicing safe food storage – two cars were broken into over the last couple of weeks on the mountain.

With the front part of the Lake devoid of ice and the back not too far behind with the wind blowing today, we should be ice-free for Opener. The level of the Lake is about where it was when we closed. The last we heard, we had about a 59% winter. We’re trying to get boats on the Lake, but with temps well below freezing and bouts of snow – we shall see. We will NOT be taking boat reservations for this weekend. There is still a bit of snow around the shoreline, but a good deal of bare ground showing.

Fishing Opener should be awesome – considering no one’s fed them for 6 months – there are a lot of hold-over fish just waiting for you to toss that NightCrawler, glob of PowerBait or flashy new Lure at them. Fishing should be even more awesome as Department of Fish and Wilderness stopped by to let us know we would be getting a stocking this week – Woo-Hoo!

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing will serve Breakfast from 7:00am to 11:00am and Lunch until 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday for Opener after that it will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And, yes, there will be homemade pie and ice cream on the weekends. Our store hours are as follows:

Sunday 7:00 to 6:00pm

Monday 8:00 to 6:00pm

Tuesday 8:00 to 6:00pm

Wednesday CLOSED

Thursday 8:00 to 6:00pm

Friday 8:00 to 6:00pm

Saturday 7:00 to 6:00pm

According to the Ranger Station it looks like the Forks, Four Jeffry, Bishop Park, Big Trees and BitterBrush in the Bishop Creek Canyon will be open on April 28th -North Lake, Sabrina Camp and Willow will open around Memorial Day. Bishop Creek Lodge, Creekside RV Park and Cardinal Village Resort will all be opened for Opener. Parchers Resort opens mid-May.

If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –the snow and sun makes it pretty bright against the blue sky. DON’T FORGET THAT JACKET.

There is a chance of showers on Fishmas Day, so pack your weather gear appropriately. Temps are expected to be in the low-50s for the weekend with a chance of showers and the low-30s for lows. You can check out the weather forecast according to Howard our local weather ‘guesser’ at www.MammothWeather.com. You can also check out www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you’ll get the forecast for at the higher elevation. You may need to scroll down on the webpage to see the temps.

Rick, Patti and Bryan are back. About mid-May, Len and Ginny will join us along with a new face – Dwayne. With Len and Ginny returning, we start cooking during the week of May 23rd.

Hope to see you Fishmas Day, April 30, 2016 and we look forward to seeing you sometime during the summer!
