The East Walker River is still fishing excellent. Mostly small midge patterns and streamers. The flow is at 57 cfs today, the water is still a little green but the fish are feeding well. There's been some folks in the area telling anglers not to fish the East because of the low flows, and I gotta tell you, as far as I'm concerned this is just plain ignorant. I've been fishing the EW for 30 or so years, and I've been fishing the Nevada side of the EW for at least the last 10 quite a bit during the winter months. Most winters the flows are in the 23 to 25 cfs range from around November until at least February, and sometimes in to April. Some of the best days I've ever had on the river have been when the flows are at that level, and I don't believe I've ever killed any fish down there because of that. I haven't spoken with a biologist yet who thinks the low flows alone are cause to worry about the fish down there. The only time you are going to have potential mortality on the fish in that river is if the low flows are teamed up with high water temperatures, and I'd be the first to let you know if and when there's that potential. Anyway, I don't believe there's any reason to worry about the river, temps are in the low 50's and I'm expecting a great winter season, grab you long-handles and hit the water.

On other subjects, Kirman is fishing really well these days, better than I've seen it for the last 2 or 3 years. Lots of different patterns are working, buggers in white, black, black/purple are working, as well as scud, water boatman patterns and Stillwater nymphs. Most of the fish being caught are cutts, in the 16 to 19 inch range, and a few brookies in the 17" range. The fish are plenty healthy,?? and the cutts are fighting almost as well as the brookies.

The Twins are fishing pretty well also, the best has been casting lures like bouyants and Rapalas off the shore, the trolling has been ok, as long as you stay in tight to the shoreline.

Bridgeport Lake hasn't taken off just yet, however I spoke with a couple guys this morning that have been catching a few each day for the last couple days, maybe it's getting ready to bust loose?Ķhopefully!

The Bridgeport Enhancement Program Fly Fishing Tournament was a success, over $4,000 was raised for the fish. The lake section was a little tough with only 1 qualifying fish caught, but the river section did pretty well with fish up to 23.75 inches qualifying. Rey "Mundo" Robles of Stay Bent Guide Service was the grand prize winner with the big 23 incher. There was over $8,000 worth of prizes given away at the prime rib awards dinner, lots of anglers went home with lots of killer swag!!
