EAST WALKER RIVER

Not much has changed on the East this past week, the flows are still at around 550cfs, it’s still getting some angling traffic but not really that much. The anglers who are more used to fishing the higher flows are definitely having some success with some nice fish being caught mostly on streamers but some on nymphs and a few on dries. One of the keys to success with the higher flows is to search out the calmer water near the banks that is holding fish and that you can get a drift into. It’s not easy by any means but it can be very good if you fish it right. Some patterns to try: sculpzilla, ziwi, Dali Lama, zuddler, dead drift crayfishg, double bunny, hornberg, perdigon nymph, buckskin caddis, Fox’s poopah, deep sparkle pupa, hoppers, ants, elk hair caddis and E/C caddis.

SCEIRINE RANCH

We didn’t get any reports back from the ranch this week but as soon as we do we’ll pass the information along.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond fished very well this week with lots of nice fish being caught as well as a few nicer ones being broke off! The fish seem to be pretty active most of the day lately possibly due to the overcast days we’ve been having, when the sun is out they are eating some hopper/dropper rigs as well as some adult damsels on top, when it’s overcast the’ve been liking stillwater nymphs, damsel nymphs and mini leech patterns.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The Reservoir is still the hotspot lately with lots of fish being caught over in the stream channels in Buckeye Bay. We haven’t heard much from the Rainbow Point area, or trolling in general but there is plenty of action over in the Bay. Pinched crawlers, mice tails, power bait and inflated crawlers are all doing well over there and some anglers are jigging Hook Up Baits and fishing small Rapalas to get it done. Fly anglers are fishing balanced leeches, damsels, ice cream cones and soft hackles off of indicators and also doing very well.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, I think that with the cooler nighttime temps we’ve been getting the fishing up there should be picking up. If I was going to make the trip I’d be packing some leech patterns, soft hackles and scud patterns.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins are still fishing very well with lots of nice fish showing up, some up to around 7 pounds. The bait anglers are doing well with power bait, pinched crawlers and mice tails, the lure anglers are catching fish with Hook Up Baits, Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters and Sierra Slammers. Fly anglers are getting some hook ups with wooly buggers, seal buggers, matukas, mini leeches and soft hackles.

WEST WALKER RIVER

The flows on the West are now fluctuating between 550 and 600 cfs and though we’ve had a few decent reports it is still pretty difficult to fish. There’s lots of water still coming off the mountain from snow melt and we’ve had some thunder showers this week that have muddied up the water for short periods of time as well. If you’re going to give it a try in spite of the higher flows, by all means be careful, it’s a very powerful river and you don’t want to be caught off guard. Lure anglers can try some slightly larger Panther Martins, Vibrax spinners and Thomas Bouyants while bait anglers can go with salmon eggs, power eggs and crawlers.

VIRGINIA LAKES

We’ve had some great reports from the Virginias this past week, mostly from anglers who are getting away from the shore with kayaks, tubes and even paddle boards. The shore fishing seems to have slowed down a bit the if you’re out in the water it should be much better. Hook Up Baits caught a lot of fish up there this week, some other lures to try are Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants. Bait anglers are drifting pinched crawlers, night crawlers and mice tails for some strikes and fly anglers are stripping seal buggers, mini leeches and matukas with soft hackle and pheasant tail droppers.
