EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is flowing at about 84cfs today, the temperatures are hanging in there and still in the 60’s for much of the river though with the weather warming up lately this likely won’t last for too long. I’d expect that by the end of the month it may be time to stay off the river, at this time the fish are still happy and healthy with lots of energy, we’ll do our best to keep a close watch on it and let you know how the temperatures progress. That being said, the fishing down there has been pretty good for some and of course not so good for others. The successful reports we’ve been getting have been mostly with dries and dry/dropper rigs, we’ve had some good early morning reports with dries like parachute adams, elk hair caddis, tricos, as well as some dry/dropper rigs with chubby Chernobyl’s and stimulators on top and perdigons, silver streaks, rainbow warriors or psycho princes underneath. The dry action has also been decent in the evenings with E/C caddis, elk hair caddis and blue wing olives.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The reports we’ve received from the ranch have also been mixed with some anglers not doing well at all while others have done very well. One angler reported having a great day over the weekend, catching fish all day long on dries with some of the fish pushing the 20” mark. The same patterns that have been working on the Cali side seem to also be doing the trick on the ranch. It sounds like the shady areas are the best to fish, overhanging willows and undercut banks where the fish have a little comfort from the sun.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The Reservoir seems to have slowed down quite a bit this past week, there’s lots of weed growth and the fish seem to be pretty shy. There’s still some folks giving it a go every day and the reports we’re getting are that most of them are only getting into 1 or maybe 2 fish per day. The anglers who are catching a fish or two are moving around quite a bit to find them and fishing crawlers, pinched crawlers or power bait. There’s still a few perch being caught but they’re being pretty shy as well.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t hear any news from Kirman this week if we get any reports we’ll be sure to pass them along.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins seems have picked up a bit with lots of pan sized fish as well as some nice 3 to 5 pounders being caught lately. The Kokanee are also pretty active for the trollers lately. Shore anglers are catching some fish with power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers. Trolling has been pretty good with speedy shiners, small Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants. We haven’t heard any news from fly anglers but you should be able to pull some fish with sinking lines and various leech patterns with soft hackle or zug bug droppers.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We’ve had a few decent reports from the West this week both near the town of Walker and further South near the Highway 395 bridge, night crawlers and some spinners have been doing the trick for some anglers. Fly anglers might try dry/dropper rigs with hoppers and stimulators on top and hare’s ears or prince nymphs underneath.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The Virginias are still producing some really nice 3 to 4 pound rainbows as well as lots of native brookies. Bait anglers are using pinched crawlers and mice tails while lure anglers are going with mini jigs, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters. Fly anglers can try beetles and ants on top as well as mini leeches, wooly buggers and soft hackles underneath.
