Truckee River Outfitters

Report Date:

The fish are starting to move into shallow water. There have been reports of 10 to 20 fish days. The water is still a little cold but warmer weather is expected for later this week. The numbers of fish caught are still down but the next 6 to 8 weeks should be wide open at the lake. Fish are being caught all over the lake on a variety of flies. For shooting heads Olive Martini's have been working well. They imitate the large number of dragon fly nymphs in the lake. Use these as the point fly with a bright colored dropper such as a popcorn beetle. Nymphing is also working well. Pyramidges and maholo flies in black and red are hard to beat. Reno Fly Shop guide Chris Evison had a client catch a 7 pounder and a 10 pounder on Saturday on a black maholo midge.
