East Walker River

The East is running at about 121 cfs right now. The fishing down there has been pretty good this past week, lots of nice fish being caught. Nymphing is still the main success story though we have been getting a few decent streamer reports an we’ve had some good evening dry reports the last few days as well. There are lots of nice browns being caught, from 14 to 20 inches as well as some good rainbows stretching the tape up to 23 or 24. With the lower flows we’re having this season it’s likely that the water will warm up quite a bit over the next couple months so it’s probably going to be a good thing to get some fishing in before that happens.

Patterns to try: Rainbow warrior, silver streak, san juan worm, squirmy wormy,  micro mayflies, top secret midge, darth baetis, buckskin caddis, LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa, z-wing caddis, Fox’s poopah, elk hair caddis, E/C caddis, parachute adams, sculpzilla, zuddler, moal leech, JJ special, dead drift crayfish.

Sceirine Ranch

The Sceirine is still fishing very well, lots of nymph action as well as some good dry action here and there. They’re starting to eat some dead drift crayfish and there’s still some action with stonefly nymphs as well as most of the flies mentioned above. Give us a call if you want to book some time on the ranch and we can get you on the calendar!

Hunewill Pond

We didn’t have anyone on the pond this week, the wind kind of made it pretty tough out there. We’ll get you some information as soon as we can!

Bridgeport Reservoir

The Reservoir livened up a bit again this week, the weather has been cooperating so anglers have been able to spend a lot of time on the water lately. We’ve had several fish up to nearly 9 pounds come in on both bait fishing and trolling. The trollers are using night crawlers, Thomas bouyants, Rapalas, speedy shiners and needlefish while the bait anglers are using power bait, pinched crawlers, mice tails and inflated crawlers. The best areas still seem to be in the East Walker channel out from the marina and off of Rainbow Point, as the water warms up with the nicer weather we’ve been having I’d expect fish to start moving into Buckeye Bay so it should start getting better up there. We didn’t get any fly fishing reports from the Reservoir this week but there should be some decent action in these same areas stripping streamers and once there are some fish moving back into Buckeye Bay there should be some good opportunity for some stillwater nymphing.

Kirman Lake

No news from Kirman this week, if we hear anything next week we’ll pass it on.

Twin Lakes

The Twins are still kicking out some good rainbows in the 2 to 6 pound range trolling and still fishing. Trollers have been using Thomas Bouyants, needlefish and speedy shiners while bait anglers are using power bait, inflated crawlers and mice tails. There’s been some decent action from the shore near the inlets as well as along the backside of Lower Twin. The weather has been beautiful and anglers hve been having a great time up there fishing and enjoying the scenery.

West Walker River

We haven’t heard a whole lot of news from the West this past week, just a fish or two here and there. There have been a few fish caught on spinners, eggs and crawlers by a few anglers. The water conditions are pretty good, 99% of the run-off is done so the water is lower and clear. With the warmer days the hoppers are coming out so there should be some good opportunity for fly anglers to get back to dry/dropper fishing.

Virginia Lakes

The Virginias are still fishing excellent with some nice native brookies, holdover rainbows and some nice BFEF rainbows up to nearly 6 pounds. Bait anglers are having success with pinched crawlers, mice tails and inflated crawlers, lure anglers are using Kastmasters, Thomas Bouyants and Panther Martins. Fly anglers are using Twin Lakes Specials, seal buggers and matukas with soft hackle and copper john droppers.
