Mammoth Lakes, CA ??? Troutstock Eastern Sierra is an unprecedented Festival of All-Things Trout and it is back better than ever on Labor Day Weekend ??? August 28 thru September 1, 2008.

"Troutstock Eastern Sierra began 4 years ago as a way to encourage more families to visit the beautiful Eastern Sierra and try their luck fishing our many streams, rivers and lakes. Now, families plan their vacations around it," commented Sandra DiDomizio, Tourism and Recreation Department Special Events Manager.

Troutstock Eastern Sierra is an event that appeals to the hard-core anglers as well as their spouses and children. All events are FREE and family-friendly (except for the tagged trout competition which requires registration). All proceeds benefit fish stocking programs in the Eastern Sierra.

Events this year include a tagged trout competition with lots of cash and prizes available just for registering, live entertainment, kids entertainment, a kids trout pond with free instruction and poles to borrow, kids fishing games, trout cooking and fly casting demonstrations, an arts and crafts festival in the woods, free trolley rides, and an Awards party and BBQ on Sunday night in The Village at Mammoth...all with the beautiful Eastern Sierra Mountain range as your backdrop.

Additions to this year's event include:

A reduction in the number of lakes stocked with tagged trout. Only South Mono County lakes are included in the tagged trout competition: Convict Lake, the Mammoth Lakes basin and June Lakes basin.

Instead of insuring a Million Dollar prize (which no one ever seems to win), we're guaranteeing $10,000 in Cash and many other prizes.

The Department of Fish and Game will host more kids fishing activities.

Special promotions will take place at both June and Convict Lake on Saturday, August 30, 2008 with cash up for grabs.

All pre-registered anglers receive a complimentary Official Troutstock 2008 T-shirt featuring last year's winning design by Allison Campbell.

General Angler Prizes

For those anglers who do not catch a tagged trout there will be a random drawing of all pre-registered anglers for $2,000, along with a random drawing of all registered anglers for a family vacation to Mammoth Lakes.

Tagged Trout Cash and Prizes

Each registrant who catches a tagged fish will have their name entered into a random draw by division: men; women; and children 15 and under. There will be $5,000 in cash given away in $1,000 dollar increments proportionate to the number of anglers registered in each division. Anticipated spread is: Men three (3) $1,000 prizes, Women one (1) $1,000 prize, Children 15 and under one (1) $1,000 prize. In the event no tagged trout are caught in a division, the prize will be distributed to another division based on tagged fish caught in that division at the discretion of the event producer. Every registrant that catches a tagged fish will also win a prize package valued at a minimum of $200. Registration Fees: $30 ??? children 15 and under, $40 ??? online and Mail-in, and $50 on-site.

Saturday Specific Cash Prizes

The June Lake Chamber of Commerce will be awarding $250 in June Bucks for the first fish caught out of each lake on the June Lake Loop including: June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake.

Every angler who catches a tagged trout in June Lake will be entered into a drawing for $1,000 in cash.

Every angler who catches a tagged trout in Convict Lake who has not won a prize outlined in No. 14 of the official contest rules & regulations will be entered into a drawing for $500 in Convict Lake Resort Bucks.

To be eligible for the Saturday Specific Cash Prizes, the tagged fish must be caught during official competition times between sunrise and sunset and be checked in at the official check-in point by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday for each area - June Lake: Ernie's Tackle Shop, Convict Lake: Convict Lake Resort General Store.
