Andy Burk's Fly Fishing Schools

Andy's Top to Bottom Tactics for Trout
Andy Burk is one of the industries most innovative personalities.
His work over the past years in the art of Czech Nymphing and Euro style nymphing has helped many anglers take nymph fishing to the next level. These techniques will be the center piece of the spring class. Do not miss an opportunity to spend the weekend with one of fly fishing's real super heroes.

The class will take place on the Truckee River and its tributaries. The class will be limited to 6 anglers to ensure individual instruction. This is an intermediate to advanced class and will cover nymphing, dry fly techniques and streamer fishing. The cost of the class will be $695 and will include first class lodging in Truckee, gourmet meals and of course spending the weekend on the water with Andy Burk and our top guides and instructors.

May 30-June 1 June 6-8 September 19-21

Andy's Spring Creek Tactics@ Goodrich Creek
Andy Burk grew up in Susanville California. He has been fishing Goodrich Creek for over 20 years. He has fished and guided spring creek waters since he was 18. His expertise on spring creeks has helped anglers hone their skills and catch more fish for years. This summer Andy and long time Goodrich Creek guide Rob Anderson will teach a selected few anglers how to master crystal clear spring creek water. The tactics learned in this clinic can be used on spring creeks anywhere. Sign up soon as space is very limited on a water that is one of the most popular private fisheries around.

The clinic will take place on the famous Goodrich Creek at the 101 Ranch. The clinic will be limited to 6 anglers to ensure individual instruction. This is an intermediate to advanced class. The cost of the class will be $795 and will include 3 days of fishing at Goodrich Creek, gourmet meals and lodging on the 101 Ranch. Don't miss a rare opportunity to spend time on the water with Andy and Rob.

TRUCKEE RIVER
Truckee River Flows @Boca 301 cfs @Farad 306 cfs @Reno 245 cfs

The Truckee has picked up a little bit and there are a few nice fish being caught. The key to hooking up is to fish slow and deep with a wide variety of different nymphs and streamers. Presentation is more important than having the perfect fly. The fly must be right in the fishes face to get the grab! Exercise a little patience as you fish, making sure that each piece of likely looking water is covered very thoroughly. Try places where there is a decent flow of water with areas of slower water directly below them where fish can comfortably hang out.
Dead drifting a combo of a large nymph followed by a smaller nymph is the most effective but dead drifting streamers can be very effective too.

BEST FLIES FOR THE TRUCKEE
Copper Johns 16-20, Bead Head Pheasant Tail Nymph 16-18, Mercers Poxy Golden Stone nymph 6-8, Wired Caddis Amber 14-16, Scudaddis 14-16, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear 12-18, Wooly Bugger 6-10, McCunes Sculpin 6

PYRAMID LAKE
Fishing has finally started to pick up a bit at the big lake and it looks like we're in for a really good late Winter and Spring season. Fish are still scattered and many anglers are taking a run and gun approach, fishing an area for a half an hour or so and then moving if they don't catch fish. You may end up fishing four or five different areas during a day of fishing before you find an area with active fish. Once you find some fish stay on them! As is normally the case getting to the lake early in the morning increases your odds of hooking up. The more time you spend fishing Pyramid, the better YOUR chance of catching one of those big red Monster Cutts!

BEST FLIES FOR PYRAMID LAKE
Black and Red Wooly Worm 4-6, Martini Olive 6, Black and Chartreuse 6, Midnight Cowboy 6, Purple Cowboy 6, Northern Lights Tadpole 8, and Black and Tan Tadpole

LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVER
Flows 51 CFS

With above average snow pack in the Sierras, the road to the Little Truckee is closed. It should remain this way for at least a few weeks. Fire up your snowmobile and give us a report.

EAST WALKER RIVER
Flows 31 CFS

There is anchor ice at present on the East Walker. Fishing is tough and the fish are really lethargic. Overnight lows in the Bridgeport area have been in the single digits on a regular basis as of late. Fishing should improve as the days and nights warm and the ice melts. Wait at least a week for a better report.
