MONO COUNTY ALERT: Record Snowpack and Warmer Temperatures Present Dangerous Ice Conditions

(04/26/23) - Mono County Officials are urging residents and visitors to research local conditions, and exercise extreme caution when recreating outdoors as record snowpack coupled with rising temperatures have created hazardous and fragile ice conditions throughout the Eastern Sierra.
"We recognize the desire to get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors as the weather has improved, but the extreme weather conditions we've experienced recently have resulted in dangerous conditions on local rivers, streams, and lakes," said Chris Mokracek, Director of the Mono County Office of Emergency Management. "Residents and visitors are advised to avoid ice fishing, and urged to exercise extreme caution when recreating on Mono County's waterways."
